The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) called for bold policy reforms, accelerated innovation and sustained investment to secure the future of Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry, urging stakeholders to move beyond dialogue and commit to practical actions that strengthen resilience and competitiveness.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GhIPCon 2026), he noted that the downstream petroleum sector is being reshaped by geopolitical uncertainties, technological advancement, supply chain disruptions and the global energy transition, presenting Ghana with significant opportunities to position itself as a leading petroleum hub in Africa.
He stressed that resilience requires stronger institutions, modern infrastructure, energy security, operational efficiency and an enabling regulatory environment. Innovation, he said, must be driven through digital transformation, automation, smart logistics and cleaner fuel technologies, while sustained investment is essential for infrastructure expansion, technology adoption and human capital development.
He reaffirmed the National Petroleum Authority’s commitment to a regulatory framework that protects consumers, promotes investor confidence, encourages fair competition and supports sustainable industry growth, adding that regulation should inspire confidence and facilitate responsible investment.
Highlighting opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), he said Ghana has the potential to become a regional hub for petroleum trading, storage, transportation and distribution through stronger regional cooperation, harmonised standards and strategic infrastructure investment.
He urged delegates to ensure that discussions at GhIPCon 2026 translate into practical policies, strategic partnerships and investments that will strengthen Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector and contribute to Africa’s broader energy future.
